Personal accessories

I have recently had a number of people ask me what the phrase ‘personal accessories’ means. To my understanding, and in the fashion world, the term refers to any extras that are not part of basic body wear, or in other words it maybe that additional (garment/jewelry) touch that you add to your basic dressing to make yourself comfortable or to ‘pimp’ yourself out. They exclude among other things any clothing and or other special objects that may be worn for medical reasons.

Below is a list of what I would refer to as personal accessories:

  • Belts, suspenders
  • Scarfs, shawls,
  • Any kind of jewelry, excluding wedding/engagement rings
  • Purses, wallets, handbags
  • Watches, sun glasses,
  • Any form of make up
  • Personal gadgets that may be part of clothing e.g. in the case of wearable devices
  • (to be cont’d)

Am gonna ‘pause’ the list here, because if I keep going, I might list everything that you are wearing including your pants and strings even though they may not necessarily be classified as personal accessories.

I hope that gives a little idea about personal accessories, in another field (e.g. the field of technology), the phrase may refer to completely different things.
